Tree of life, KalpaVriksha are some popular names of Coconut as billions of people depend on it for livelihood. More than 12 million Ha of land has been encroached by coconut providing the possibility to produce near about 56 billion nuts globally every year. A palm with such tremendous capabilities is susceptible to various pests, among them, the incidence of nut infesting eriophyid mite (Aceria guerreronis) is prominent in many of the coconut-growing countries. This mite damage has led to the loss of more than 75 million nuts yearly.

Coconut is also referred to as ‘Kalpa Vriksha’. It is an important multipurpose perennial crop of the tropics. Which plays a significant role in the agrarian economy. India is the third largest producer of coconut in the world. Coconut production is hindered by several pests of which eriophyid mite, the rhinoceros beetle, red palm weevil, black headed caterpillar and white-grub are noteworthy. During the year 2016 a minor pest of coconut called Rugose Spiralling Whitefly was reported from pollachi and palakkad regions of Tamil Nadu and Kerala states respectively, which jeopardized the coconut industry in India. Plantation infected with whitefly will hinder nut production and decline the quantity and quality of nuts.
